Making up for my lack of blogging lately today! Thank you again for the get well wishes. I’ve had to start another round of antibiotics, still lots of coughing and a fever, not feeling quite as good as I thought I was :0(

We are having a beautiful Autumn day yet again. The weather has been wonderfully warm (in the 70s). They’ve been mowing and baling hay over the fence, you can just see the wagon out picking up bales on my first knitting photo. As to the knitting, this is my little wool scarf project. I’m very much an amateur knitter. This pattern just alternates between knit and pearl but I’ve still managed to flub it up – you can see where my zigs (or maybe my zags) are a bit wobbly. I’m having fun either way.

I finished up the tree that gave me so much trouble on Red House Sampler, the leaves went very well. I added another bit of the border. I did put in some other stitches but they were all wrong and had to come back out.

Here is my little care/comfort package from the cheese shop. There’s also some brie nestled in there you can’t quite see – and my replacement MP3 player – I’m so happy to have that back. More importantly you can see the new tea cozy here from Impie, Hattie & Bea. It comes in two prints and co-ordinates perfectly with The Tea Room from Country Cottage Needleworks. Some pictures from our ‘big snow’ last week. It was pretty much completely melted by Sunday. It was very pretty as you can see. The first picture looks a bit funny, like the mountain has stubble – that’s where there was a fire this past year.

I was admiring the cows when this little fella came over to admire me, isn’t he cute (I think it’s a boy cow)?

It’s supposed to be 70+ degrees here tomorrow and Friday, so any little bit of snow that has been surviving in the shade will be disappearing as well.

Thought it might be nice to have a little post show up between one Rocky Mountain Wednesday and another. I’m still here, slowly feeling like I might someday feel like me again (still three and half days of antibiotics left to go).

I’ve been trying to stitch but seem to make more mistakes than progress. Here is how The Red House Sampler looked back in June. I’ve not filled in so very much. It took me seven tries to get those tree branches right I think. I really want to start on the pretty border soon. I did put in one tiny part of it and hope to spend a little time in my cozy spot (see night table picture) working on this as early as I can tonight, I feel pretty tired by the afternoon still.

I just got an email to say that the replacement for my broken MP3 player is on the way – I’m getting a bit emotional here…guess I’m not quite myself yet!

The weather is nothing like this today! Jerry took these photos last week in Colorado Springs, you’re looking at the famous Pikes Peak. We lived in Colorado Springs ages ago and had a very nice view of Pikes. We also often visited Glen Eyrie where these bighorn sheep are grazing.

Here is what the national weather service is saying about or current weather conditions – Snow… heavy at times will continue into Thursday. Total snowfall accumulations of 14 to 28 inches are expected… with up to 36 inches possible near the foothills. North winds of 15 to 30 mph will produce areas of blowing and drifting snow.

I took a few pictures from my windows this morning (I’m not going out there), it has continued to snow heavily throughout the day and is much deeper.

Thank you again for the get well wishes, still not feeling great and lots of coughing going on, but I do think the medication is helping.

About a month ago I decided to restart On Travel with Jane Austen (The Sampler Girl). I spent a little more time working on this last night. It’s going slowly, I find that I stitch very slow when I’m using 40ct linen. I do like the smaller size very much. Slow and steady has been my theme the past few days. My asthma is awful and I have to just take things very slowly, and when I’m feeling really anxious because I feel like I can’t get air and would like to panic – putting a few slow stitches in my project really does help me calm down a little.

I’m still shipping orders and these pretties are headed out the door. Not sure if I can pick a favorite of the bunch. You can find these here.

I’ve been asked about peppermint hot cocoa. Here’s how I like to make it. I heat milk in the microwave and add Nesquick chocolate powders. Then I take a clean spoon and pour a tiny bit of peppermint extract on the spoon – and then pour the extract back into the bottle. There will be enough left on the spoon – even if you can’t see it, to nicely flavor your cocoa.

Not very much to report in the way of stitching progress. My asthma is still very bad and I don’t have the energy or time for stitching in the evening right now. I did add a few stitches to this WIP last Sunday. This project is a bit of a change from what I usually stitch, I’m enjoying it.

I’m also enjoying the wonderful things that are coming and going at Handcrafts Online, these beautiful silks from Carries thread are like fall leaves. I want to restart my Pride and Prejudice Sampler (the Sampler Girl) and I think I will use Carrie’s Silks this time.

Pretty Autumn Cake — this photo is from the Williams-Sonoma newsletter. It’s it gorgeous, I wonder if it tastes as good as it looks? I’ll settle for some cheese cake that Amber made last night with my coffee when I finish this, but boy this cake looks tasty!

Here’s another round thing from my week – my flat tire. This happened about 9pm Wednesday night with me and 4 kids in the car – good times! I’ll sign off with a photo Jerry took on his travels this week, he took several and I think I’ll use them for Rocky Mountain Wednesdays next week.

Enjoying a beautiful fall here in the Rocky Mountains! These photos were taken Sunday and Monday before our current cold, wet, and grey weather which is nice in it’s way too.

Well the baby is 7 now. Ethan’s birthday was Saturday and we had a little family pizza party with a Wall-e cake (which I purchased). The best thing about Ethan’s birthday was that Jerry was home. He’s working out of town again and I have to say I’m not very happy about it. I’m grateful he has work but having him gone is no fun at all. I feel bad for military spouses – really bad and should  stop whining now!

While Jerry was home we took a short drive – the weather was really beautiful and warm this weekend.  I took a few pictures and enjoyed the afternoon very much.  Amber had a great dinner waiting for us when we got home, delicious pulled pork sandwiches (which she cooked all day in the crockpot) a wonderful pasta salad with strawberries in it and more cake for dessert – yum!

I stitched for a bit on an old WIP while I watched Casablanca last night (Jerry was on the road again by then), I also spent some time putting together kits this weekend, the Mint Frost for CaHRH is really pretty! Lots of things are coming in from the Online Show so I’m off to get today’s deliveries ready to ship!

Let’s just say, I’m glad you aren’t looking at this up close.

This is from Stacy Nash Primitives and called Netty’s Sampler Pinkeep Drum. I decided to stitch this on 32 count although the pattern recommends 28ct. The design comes with a sort of pattern for finishing and I thought, I retook college math recently…..I can figure this out….I was happy to find a glass in the cabinet that was just the right size which prevented me from hurting my brain too much.

Actually the glass was really handy as a sort of dress-form for my pinkeep. After I sewed the top on I stuffed it by making a bit of lining with batting and then filling in the center with fiber fill. When I had the bottom cloth mostly stitched on, I added a good amount of ground walnut shells to make it bottom heavy – it sits nicely. Using an old button from Grandma’s button box I added a tassel because I couldn’t help myself!

I will need more practice on this sort of finish – like I said, I’m glad you can’t see this up close – leaving you with one last picture of the ‘good side’.

It is lovely to see and feel the sun for the first time since last week. It will be in the mid to high 60s this week and they say in the 70s on Saturday. Even the prairie dogs are loving it!
