kuzcotopia! (blogiversary)

‘It’s my birthday gift to me – I’m so happy!’

I couldn’t help falling in with the rest of my family and applying a quote from Emperor’s New Grove. This is one of the most quoted movies at our house along with Chicken Run!

In honor of my two years here with you all in blogging land, I’m having a celebration weekend. Free shipping on all US orders at the webshop, $1.50 on all international orders.

Also, there will be a drawing for 4 prizes, to enter please leave a comment at this post. Drawing will be held April 30 at 5pm Mountain time, winners will be announced on that day’s Rocky Mountain Wednesday post. (The 4th prize is a secret and will be shown Wednesday).

The prizes are:

1. Pretty Pin Pillow with some coordinating silk from Dinky Dyes, linen, and jobelan fabric.

2. Scissor Fob by me and a pair of Dinky Dyes Swan Scissors

3. A selection of Lizzie Kate Snippet designs

It makes me very happy to see the number of readers grow at my blog every month. It means so much to me when you take the time to comment or email me. I thank you so very much for all you friendship and encouragement.

Things are a little crazy in my office at the moment. I’ve been dealing with a broken sewing machine (it is never good when smoke comes out of the machine) and I’m having a hard time getting the tension right on the serger I finally figured out how to thread. I stopped at WalMart a bit ago and grabbed a quick emergency replacement for my machine because I was almost in tears after the 3rd sales person in as many shops refused to show me the machine I was really looking for and spent 30 minutes talking to me about a machine that had about 1000 stitches more than I need and was about that much more than I wanted to spend. I’ll try again next week. I’m seriously thinking about buying one online. The choice at the moment is the Janome 1600 – I’d love to hear from anyone who has one!

much more basic one than that model I think! Hope you find something you like.

  5. Congratulations, how wonderful to have a party to celebrate your blogs anniversary. I think thats great. Many more happy years of blogging to you too. I love your blog, and your pictures are always so very pretty.
How do you like that sewing machine from Walmart. I don’t know how to use a sewing machine but I have been tempted to buy one at Walmart to experiment a bit. I am such a chicken. I really need to learn. xoxoxo Happy Anniversary!!

  6. Happy Blogiversary Mary Kathryn!!! You have brought me much pleasure with your wonderful posts and beautiful photos……I love Rocky Mountain Wednesdays! We used to live in Colorado, and much as we like it here in Kansas I do miss the mountains.

It seems so many sales people just don’t get it when told all the extra “stuff” isn’t necessary. Heck forward, reverse, and zig-zag can get just about anything sewn very nicely.

  7. I love your blog. I am very inspired by your stitching and sewing. I am also a huge fan of your webshop. I look forward to another year of your blog.

  8. Happy Anniversary (blogiversary) Mary Kathryn!!! I so love your blog and I look forward to reading your entries every day. As you know, I LOVE your shop and the ease in ordering with you. And not to metion your Rocky Wednesdays makes me miss living in Denver 🙂

  14. Congrats on your blogiversary. I know what you mean about learning to thread your serger. I always tie my new thread to the old and pull them through the serger. When we moved, somehow one of the threads got pulled out and I used it with just 3 threads for awhile, till I figured it out.

  15. Happy Blogiversary!!! You have such a nice blog. Enjoy reading. Especially enjoy the scenery pictures especially on RMW. You must live in a beautiful part of Colorado. Then a lot of Colorado is beautiful.

You have some very nice gifts available. I would love to be included in your drawing.

You do a very nice job with all the finishing you do.

  16. I love visiting your blog Mary Kathryn, your photos are wonderful as are your lovely stitched and finished projects. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into this blog–happy blogversary and thank you for the contest. I would like to be entered please. 🙂

  20. Happy Blogiversary Mary Kathryn! I’m a big city girl, but everytime I see you Rocky Mountain Wednesday, I would love to live there. But I’m in The Netherlands.. we don’t have mountains. 🙂 So please keep these pictures in your blog, which I love to read. You are so inspireing.

  21. Congrats on two years! It’s so fun having a blog isn’t it?

We love The Emperor’s New Groove as well! “Can’t you feel the power Kronk?”… “oh yeah, I can feel it” LOL! 😀

Your store is fabulous, I’ll be a return customer for sure!

  22. Happy blogiversary Mary Kathryn – I too love reading your blog and seeing the pics of the beautiful area in which you live. Keep up the good work and here’s to the next 2 years

  23. I love love love looking at your blog. I love how you share a part of your world and your finishes with us. Your so creative! I also appericate the prompt service you give to. Happy Blogaversy!

  24. Happy Anniversay.

Can sympahtise with the tension on your serger, took me 40 minutes to get mine right, hope find what you are looking for in your sewing machine.

    Here’s to the next two!!!!!
PS Fabric arrived – loved it all.

  25. Happy Blogiversary, Mary Kathryn! I’m an Emperor’s New Groove fan as well 🙂 I’m also a big fan of your RMW pics!

If those salespeople had just shown you the machine you wanted then they would have had a sale. By showing you everything but (by the sounds of it) they miss out – more fool them!

I had a Janome machine back in Australia – loved it. I don’t know the model you are looking at it but if it’s a Janome, it’s got to be good … IMHO of course 🙂

  26. Hi Mary Kathryn! Happy blogiversary! I am another who enjoys reading your blog. I don’t reply real often, as I just don’t have time. Your blog is always so inspirational!

  27. I don’t have the model you are looking at but I have 2 Janome machines – the second is an upgrade. I mostly do home sewing and crafts and I love both of them. I have never had any issues with them. Good luck with your purchase -it’s so exciting!

  28. Happy Blogiversary, Mary Kathryn!
I always love your beautiful photos and your stitching is so inspiring! Thanks for sharing all of that with us! Looking at your beautiful blog always cheers me up!

  29. Happy Bolgiversary Mary Kathryn!!!!
I wish you the best of luck in many more blog years. I visit your blog often, and I especially like the pics of the mountains and the food!!!
Is that dogwood with the bee in it?

  30. I love your Rocky Mountain Wednesdays. My sister lives in Franktown, CO so I feel a little closer to her when I see your pictures. Glad you saw a honeybee. Our Ohio area has few bees left and it’s always exciting to see honeybees. I just bought a Pfaff machine in late fall and love it. I too, didn’t want the top of the line machines so I got the quilters instead. Pfaffs are work horses but I’ve heard good things about Janomes too. In fact where I bought my machine they only sell Janomes anf Pfaffs. Good luck and happy aniversary!

  31. Hi Kathryn,
I love your blog! Beautiful photos!

I can sympathize with your sewing machine woes. I am currently using a Kennmore from 1963. It was the machine I learned on! It is just feebly limping along. I don’t know what I will do when it finally goes!
    Great job on your blog!
    Erica

  32. Happy Blogiversary! Wishing you many more years of stitching, Rocky Mountain Wednesdays and blogging. Off to shop your store now… 😀

  33. Happy Blogiversary Mary Kathryn! 🙂 I’m so sorry about your sewing machine woes. I can’t get give you any advice because I’m not much of a sewer. My only machine is from Walmart and I couldn’t even tell you where all the parts are to it! 😉 Good luck!!

  34. Happy blogiversary! I just recently discovered your blog and ONS and I’ve been enjoying both so much. Somehow missed out on your fabric sale — must have been a busy week or something! Thanks for a great blog and a great ONS. I’m so happy to have found you — and now to wish you the best. Looking forward to more from you in future!

  35. Congratulations on two successful years on the Blogosphere! What an accomplishment! Have enjoyed shopping with you and look forward to more. Best wishes, Grenae

Your sewing machine woes remind me of what I went through when trying to buy a simple machine. Good luck getting the one you want!!

  54. Congratulations!!! It’s a great pleasure to visit your blog. THank you so much for sharing all these wonders with us. All the best. Alex (from France)

  55. Happy blogiversary to you,
    Happy blogiversary to you,
    Happy blogiversary dear Mary Kathryn,
    Happy blogiversary to you!

Be thankful, very thankful, that I wrote that rather than singing it — it wouldn’t have been pretty but, it is the thought that counts!

Love you blog, love your shop — my new favorite place to buy from. Keep up the good work.

    Melissa

  56. Hi Mary Kathryn, yours is one of the few blogs I read as I am very short of time! I love the ‘big bird’ and always like to check your finishes. Good luck with getting your sewing machine.

  57. What a wonderful milestone to celebrate, made so much more so by the knowledge that so many people consider you a friend and enjoy keeping up with you, your creations and your family! AND by supporting your business endeavors as well. I enjoy your blog most because it is warm and upbeat, always positive and yes, even uplifting. Kudos, Mary Kathryn, and congratuations!

  58. More congratulations on your Blogiversary. I always read it, though I´m not always good at leaving comments! I love your snowy Wednesday pictures too 🙂

  59. Congrats on the blog. I enjoy seeing all your stitching projects and the beautiful fabrics that you buy. You have a great eye when picking out fabrics to match your projects. I also enjoy seeing the outdoor pics on Wednesdays. What a beautiful area you live in. Thanks for blogging! Karen

  60. Happy Blogoversary Mary Kathryn! Two years … amazing. I have loved getting to know you and love seeing your weekly pictures of CO. All the best and look forward to seeing what comes next.

  61. Hi MK,

I am trying my comment again – I left one on Friday (I think) but just happened by again and couldn’t find it. 😦 I can’t remember exactly what I said but I know I mentioned that if I am only going to check ONE cross stitch blog I day I hop by to see what you’ve been up to. It is wonderful that your readership has grown and grown and of course I hope that everyone is buying lots of goodies from you so that your fabulous web shop stays open and your dear self and family can prosper. 🙂 Good luck with your sewing machine search! And thanks for including us in your blogaversary celebration.

    your friend,
    Rachel

  62. Happy Blogiversary Mary Kathryn! You know I always enjoy your blog. I’d love to be included in your drawings.

So very sorry about the sewing machine issues. Hope you find one you love 🙂

  63. Happy Blogiversary! I love reading your blog, especially Rocky Mountain Wednesdays, which make me a little homesick for my college town in Utah.

I don’t have a Janone — I have a Viking and love it. Good luck with your quest!

  64. I just discovered your site; it’s lovely and you obviously have lots of loyal readers. Congratulations on the blogiversary!
I don’t have a Janome, but I have a Viking/Husquavarna Emerald (mid model). It’s pretty basic compared to what’s out there, but does everything I need it to, and I feel it’s a good machine. I had your sewing machine woes just over a year ago: sewing maching just stopped working right in the middle of Christmas sewing!

  65. Happy Blog Birthday!! I have a Bernina – an older one – it’s super solid, no shaking or rattling, everything about it feels solid and “real.” I never, ever have problems with it – it takes layers of fabric (for totes and so forth), runs through things like butter, and I got it for a steal at an auction. It’s the “dream” sewing machine, in my mind!

Good luck with the machine issue!

  66. Sewing machine troubles are dreadful, I do hope that you are able to get the replacement machine that you are looking for. I am familiar with Janome but have never stithced on one. I own a Bernina QE153 and have had good luck with this manufacturer.

  67. Happy Blogiversay Mary Kathryn! I so enjoy reading your blog and love, love, love your photography of the beautiful Colorado countryside. May there be many many more.

  68. Happy Blogiversary Mary Kathryn! I have enjoyed your blog so much..your work is lovely, your shop is awesome, and you are such an inspiration to me!

    Delena Johnson

  69. Hi Mary Kathryn,

    JOYEUX BLOG’ANNIVERSAIRE.
Many thanks for your blog, for the ideas shared, many thanks for your lovely e shop and your kindness.
Unfortunately, I am not good at sewing and I could you any advice about a sewing machine ! Nevertheless, I have got one : a Singer but we are not friend, not yet.

Longue vie à ce magnifique blog
Long life to your wonderful blog.

    The best for you
    Catherine

  70. I am sure you have probably already purchased a new machine, the janome is a great machine. But, you know, a straight stitch commercial machine is not that expensive and they will last you forever. I have been in the sewing business for over 20 years and I am still using my very first commercial straight stitch. It is a Brother and runs 5 days a week, 8, or maybe 12 hours a day. Let me know if I can help you in anyway.

  71. Happy Blog-day!!! I really enjoy looking in on your blog and, of course, do a little shopping!!!

You stitch such beautiful things!!! Thanks so much!!

    Jacqueline Boller

  72. Happy Blogiversary, Mary Kathryn!!! I don’t remember how I found your blog, I’m just happy I did! I pop in as often as I can and am always insured to find delights for the eye, mind & soul.

I’ve also had the pleasure of ordering for your shop and was just thrilled with the service!

Thank you so much for including us all in your celebration!!! Good luck to everyone!

  73. Happy blogiversary! So sorry to hear about your sewing machine dilemma. Ordering one online might be your best bet, if you can’t get help in one of the shops nearby!
